🌿 The Texas Ban That Could End the Hemp Boom — And Why It Matters Now

By Galaxy Groves

What happens when a thriving, billion-dollar industry built on plants and dreams is threatened by lawmakers? For hemp farmers and indie brands across Texas, the answer might come down to one word: survival.

🚨 The Hemp Frontier Under Fire

Back in 2019, the Texas Legislature cracked the door open for a green revolution. By legalizing agricultural hemp with less than 0.3% THC, it set the stage for a wave of entrepreneurship. Farmers turned fields into thriving businesses. Craft seltzers, gummies, and topicals hit shelves with new energy. Among the pioneers? Aaron Owens, the founder of Tejas Tonic, who transformed his ranch in Dripping Springs into a hemp-powered operation.

But today, that door is threatening to slam shut.

Republican lawmakers, citing concerns over underage THC access and unregulated products, are pushing bills that could wipe out much of the Texas hemp industry. One Senate bill already passed would ban all forms of THC, including those naturally derived from hemp. And a House proposal, currently in committee, would impose strict regulations: banning edibles and smokables, limiting sales to liquor stores, and outlawing synthetic cannabinoids.

🧃 From Field to Shelf to... Nowhere?

Aaron Owens, whose THC-infused seltzers and gummies have become local staples, says these proposals would “dramatically impact” his business. If the House bill passes, he would lose the ability to sell directly to consumers. If the Senate ban wins? Game over.

“Now my consumers would have to go to a place of alcohol to buy my non-alcoholic product? I don’t really care for that. What if you’re a recovering alcoholic?” — Aaron Owens

Owens is not alone. Hundreds of hemp growers and small business owners flooded the House committee this week, urging lawmakers to consider what’s at stake.

💸 $5.5 Billion on the Line

According to a new report by Whitney Economics and the Texas Hemp Business Council:

  • Texas’ hemp industry now brings in $5.5 billion in annual sales

  • It supports over 53,000 jobs statewide

  • And it generates $268 million in tax revenue

Cynthia Cabrera, President of the Texas Hemp Business Council, put it plainly:

“These proposed regulations will devastate small businesses, eliminate tens of thousands of jobs and strip billions from the Texas economy.”

🌈 Hope on the Horizon?

In true resilient spirit, Owens and his team are already adapting. This week, Tejas Tonic announced a new collab with Jester King Brewery to debut a line of hemp cocktails (non-alcoholic) at the upcoming Green Acres Hop Fest on April 19.

The lineup includes:

  • 5mg CBD + 5mg THC per drink

  • Available in cans and on draft at the brewery

  • Retail launch in Austin, DFW, San Antonio & Houston

If the ban goes through, Owens says he’s willing to pivot — maybe extracting oils from hemp plants and removing THC entirely. But it’s not the dream. It's survival.

🚨 Texas House Eyes THC Ban: What It Means for Delta-8, Hemp, and Texans Like You

Posted on April 10, 2025 by Galaxy Groves

Texas lawmakers are taking aim at THC — again.

This time, it’s Delta-8 THC and other hemp-derived compounds that are under fire. With less than two months left in the legislative session, two bills are making their way through the Capitol that could completely reshape the hemp landscape in Texas.

As a proud Texas-based cannabis wellness brand, Galaxy Groves is keeping a close eye on this — and you should, too.

🌿 What’s Going On?

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is doubling down on his mission to ban Delta-8 THC across the state. The Texas Senate passed Senate Bill 3 in March, and now a companion bill — House Bill 28 — is under consideration by the House State Affairs Committee.

Let’s break down the two bills:

  • Senate Bill 3 (SB 3): Would completely ban hemp-derived THC products like Delta-8.

  • House Bill 28 (HB 28): Would introduce strict regulations, ban edibles and smokables, and only allow THC-infused drinks in liquor stores.

The House has yet to vote — both bills remain pending after this week’s testimony.

🤔 Why It Matters

In 2019, Texas legalized hemp products under the state’s Farm Bill, allowing the sale of low-THC cannabis compounds like Delta-8. Since then, Texans have turned to these products for:

  • Chronic pain relief

  • Anxiety and stress management

  • Sleep support

  • PTSD care (especially among veterans)

Delta-8 offers a gentler psychoactive effect compared to traditional cannabis and is often paired with CBD for a balanced experience.

But now, with no clear evidence of harm, some lawmakers want to eliminate this access entirely. Patrick claims the industry is marketing to children and selling products with "unlimited THC" — though most retailers already follow age restrictions and testing protocols.

🗣 What Texans Are Saying

During public testimony, a majority of speakers opposed the ban. Many argued for regulation, not prohibition.

"Get those off the shelf. Regulate the hell out of this industry," said veteran advocate Mitch Fuller.
"In the veteran community, we've chosen this as an option in the toolbox that works for us."

Even House Speaker Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock) admitted confusion:

"I'm all for small business, but I really don't know what's being sold. I have significant concerns."

💥 What Happens If the Ban Passes?

If either bill becomes law:

  • Products like Delta-8 gummies, vapes, and flower would vanish from Texas shelves

  • Small hemp businesses would be forced to shut down

  • Veterans and chronic pain sufferers could lose a vital wellness tool

  • Consumers would likely turn to black market products — which are far less safe

It’s a massive rollback on personal choice, wellness freedom, and economic opportunity.

💫 Where Galaxy Groves Stands

At Galaxy Groves, we believe in:

Access to natural relief
Smart regulation over fear-based bans
Honoring the community of veterans, patients, and everyday Texans who rely on hemp

📈 High Just Got Higher: Trump Tariffs Push Cannabis Prices Up

Posted by GalaxyGroves – April 4, 2025

So you thought inflation was the only buzzkill? Think again. New tariffs announced this week by former President Trump are about to hit the cannabis world where it hurts—the wallet.

Starting now, prices on everything from vape cartridges to rolling cones are set to climb, thanks to fresh import levies slapped on goods from China, Canada, Mexico, and the EU. And for an industry that leans heavy on global supply chains, that’s a real vibe killer.

🌍 Cannabis Culture Is Global—And So Is the Cost

Here’s the deal: a massive chunk of cannabis gear—vape hardware, pre-roll tins, glassware, packaging—comes from Asia, especially China. These aren’t just accessories, they’re essentials. And most U.S. cannabis companies don’t have the domestic infrastructure to replace those imports anytime soon.

“Most cannabis businesses don’t have the margin flexibility to absorb a 10%-15% increase,” says Mike Forenza of AE Global.

That means consumers—yes, you—are about to feel the burn, and not the fun kind.

🔥 From Farms to Flower: Tariffs Hit All Along the Chain

It’s not just about the gadgets. Even soil inputs like compost and peat, often imported from Canada, are caught in the tariff crossfire. And when the supply chain looks like:
Glass from China → Wood from Canada → Assembly in Mexico → Sale in the U.S.,
…you better believe those extra costs are going to stack up faster than your stash drawer on payday.

🚬 Illicit Market Comeback?

Higher prices on legal products might push some consumers back to the gray market—exactly what the industry’s been trying to prevent. That’s not just bad for licensed brands. It’s dangerous for consumers who risk buying unregulated, untested, or straight-up sketchy products.

“We’re already seeing softening demand and slower orders,” says Brad Wasserstrom, whose company supplies cannabis packaging. “It’s trickling down to the consumer.”

🌱 What GalaxyGroves Is Doing

At GalaxyGroves, we’re about quality, clarity, and culture—not shortcuts. We’re tightening up supply chains, keeping things clean and compliant, and looking for domestic solutions where possible. But we’ll always be honest: this moment in cannabis history is going to challenge how we all source, price, and share the plant.

So here’s what you can do:

  • Buy smart – Choose brands that prioritize transparency and testing.

  • Support local – From growers to glassblowers, U.S.-based makers need you.

  • Stay loud – Let your reps know that cannabis is culture and commerce. It deserves a seat at the trade table.

U.S. Supreme Court Ruling on CBD Product Mislabeling

Posted by GalaxyGroves – April 4, 2025

When wellness turns into a courtroom showdown—everyone in the hemp world pays attention. This week, a landmark ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court sent shockwaves through the cannabis and CBD industries. At the center? A truck driver, a CBD product labeled “THC-free,” and a 5-4 ruling that could change how hemp businesses handle their claims.

🧪 CBD, THC & The Case of the Failed Drug Test

Douglas Horn, a truck driver recovering from a serious accident, turned to CBD to manage chronic pain. He chose a product advertised as THC-free—something many consumers rely on for staying compliant with workplace drug testing. But after a routine screening, Horn was fired. Post-firing lab tests showed the product contained THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis.

Horn took the fight to court, not just for wrongful termination—but for triple damages under RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act). That’s right—an anti-mob law.

The company behind the product, Medical Marijuana Inc., pushed back, claiming he wasn’t entitled to those damages because his harm was “personal,” not “business-related.”

🧑⚖️ The Court Speaks: Business Harm is Real Harm

In a tight 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court disagreed. Writing for the majority, Justice Amy Coney Barrett said Horn can pursue triple damages under RICO—because job loss and financial ruin do count as business harm.

While this doesn’t mean Horn automatically wins, it opens the door for other consumers to hold hemp brands accountable for misleading claims—especially when livelihoods are on the line.

🌱 What This Means for the Hemp & CBD Space

This case is a wake-up call for the entire hemp industry. Lab testing, transparent labeling, and third-party certifications aren’t just good practices—they’re legal lifelines.

Here’s what it means for the future:

  • Expect tighter scrutiny around THC content in “THC-free” labeled products.

  • Brands must back up claims with reliable COAs (Certificates of Analysis).

  • Consumers will demand more transparency—and rightfully so.

💬 Final Thoughts from the Grove

At GalaxyGroves, we believe in full-spectrum honesty. Whether you’re a trucker, a teacher, or a TikTok herbalist—you deserve to know exactly what’s in your hemp.

This ruling isn’t the end of the road—it’s the start of a new chapter in cannabis accountability.

Stay curious. Stay clean. And always read the lab report.

📈 Aurora Cannabis Stock Pops — What It Tells Us About the Market Mood

April 3, 2025 | Galaxy Groves Editorial

In a welcome change of pace for cannabis investors, Aurora Cannabis Inc. (ACB) saw a 2.29% rise on Wednesday, closing at $4.47 and snapping a three-day skid.

While the broader markets saw moderate gains — with the NASDAQ up 0.87% and the Dow Jones up 0.56% — Aurora’s rebound offers a small but significant glimpse into the ever-evolving dynamics of the cannabis sector.

💹 A Quick Breakdown:

  • Closing Price: $4.47

  • Daily Gain: +2.29%

  • Trading Volume: 755,400 (well below the 50-day average of 3.4M)

  • Still Down: -52.19% from its 52-week high of $9.35

🧠 What Does This Mean?

Let’s be honest — this isn’t a fireworks moment. Aurora’s stock is still far from its previous highs, and trading volume is low, signaling cautious investor sentiment. But any upward movement is a chance to look at the bigger picture.

As cannabis companies continue to weather regulatory uncertainty, black-market competition, and shifting consumer trends, market resilience (even modest) shows that the industry still has strong roots.

🌱 At Galaxy Groves, We See It Like This:

The stock market will do what the stock market does — rise, fall, fluctuate. But value in the cannabis world goes far beyond the ticker tape.

Real growth happens when:

✅ Brands respect the plant
✅ Products are rooted in purpose
✅ Communities are elevated, not exploited

We’re not here for a quick stock pump. We’re here for the long bloom — where quality, culture, and care win out.

🔮 Looking Ahead

Will ACB keep rising? Will the market continue to reward companies that stay the course? Time will tell.

But at Galaxy Groves, we’re not chasing the high — we’re cultivating the legacy.

🌿 Smoke Shop Crackdowns in Middletown: What It Means for the Future of Cannabis Culture 🌿

April 3, 2025 | By Galaxy Groves Team

This week, the city of Middletown, CT passed a temporary ban on new smoke shops, a move that follows a string of arrests tied to illegal cannabis and even cocaine sales operating under the guise of legitimate businesses.

📍 At first glance, the ban might seem like a crackdown on cannabis altogether—but the reality is deeper and more complicated.

🚨 The Root of the Problem: Unregulated and Unsafe

City officials and law enforcement revealed that several local smoke shops and convenience stores were acting as fronts for illegal sales. Products being sold included:

  • THC flower and concentrates far exceeding legal limits

  • Unregulated vapes and edibles

  • Even harder substances like cocaine

The arrests linked to locations like Smoke Plus, Smoke Shop, Munchiez, and Amaris Convenience Store highlight a concerning trend: when cannabis is sold in the shadows, quality, safety, and community health are at risk.

⚖️ Regulation Matters — For Everyone

Mayor Ben Florsheim’s office put it clearly: “We’ve seen a proliferation of illegal, gray-market cannabis sales... putting public health at risk, evading tax, and making unregulated product easily accessible to underage consumers.”

Let’s be real—the problem isn’t cannabis, it’s the way it’s being sold. This isn’t about keeping people from enjoying flower, wax, or gummies. It’s about ensuring the cannabis you’re buying is:

✅ Lab-tested
✅ Legally sourced
✅ Responsibly taxed
✅ Not mixed in with other, far more dangerous substances

🌱 What Galaxy Groves Stands For

At Galaxy Groves, we welcome this kind of scrutiny. Why? Because the future of cannabis is sacred, elevated, and transparent.

We're not here for the corner store hustle or backroom deals. We're here to:

  • Celebrate the plant in its purest, most powerful form

  • Elevate the experience through ritual, respect, and responsibility

  • Work with regulators—not around them—to create a space where cannabis is respected, not exploited

🧠 Final Thoughts: A Time to Reset

Commissioner Tyler Eckstrom said it best:

“We have to take this seriously and nip it in the bud.”

We couldn’t agree more.

This moratorium in Middletown isn’t an attack on cannabis—it’s a call for integrity. And for brands like Galaxy Groves, it’s a reminder that now more than ever, the cannabis community must lead with intention.

Innovative Uses of Hemp in Construction

🏡 Building the Future: How 3D Printing & Factory Homes Could Solve the Housing Crisis

By Galaxy Groves Staff | March 31, 2025

As rental prices continue to skyrocket and affordable housing becomes increasingly scarce, a new wave of innovation is reshaping the way we think about home construction. From robotic arms printing concrete walls to homes built on factory floors in just a week, the future of housing is here — and it might just save us.

Welcome to a world where speed, sustainability, and smart design collide.

🏭 Factory-Built Homes: Quick, Clean, and Cost-Effective

In the heart of the Colorado Rockies, a company called Fading West is doing something incredible: building fully-equipped modular homes in as little as five to seven days — even in the dead of winter.

Inside their massive indoor facility, homes move along an assembly line just like cars. At each station, workers add flooring, roofing, plumbing, electrical, and even kitchen countertops. The result? A house that’s 90% complete before it ever hits the road.

Once delivered, the homes are ready for move-in within six weeks.

“The faster you build — even at a high quality — means the lower the price,” said Eric Schaefer, of Fading West.

These homes are already making a difference. In Eagle, Colorado, near the Vail ski resort, teachers and essential workers are moving into affordable modular homes thanks to a partnership between Fading West and Habitat for Humanity.

It’s fast, efficient, and a powerful tool in the fight against housing scarcity.

🤖 3D-Printed Homes: Sci-Fi Meets Reality

Over at VeroTouch, the future is being poured one layer at a time. Picture this: a robotic arm gliding back and forth, squeezing out thick ribbons of concrete to form the walls of a home.

This isn't science fiction — it's 3D printing, and it has the potential to cut labor costs, speed up construction, and reduce waste.

While still in its early stages, this tech could one day allow for curved, artistic architecture and streamlined building like never before.

“It’s a long game,” said VeroTouch CEO Grant Hamel. “But every step chips away at housing costs.”

Challenges remain, like the high cost of machines and limited building code recognition. But the seeds of innovation are growing — and fast.

🌿 Hempcrete: The Green Material with a Bright Future

Let’s talk hemp. Yes, that hemp — but without the THC.

When mixed with lime, this plant becomes “hempcrete,” a natural, fire-resistant, mold-proof material that works as insulation, inner wall, and outer wall all at once.

Not only does it replace multiple traditional materials, but it’s also renewable: one acre can yield enough hemp for building in just a few months. Compare that to trees, which take decades.

“Hempcrete has a bright future,” says Penn State researcher Ali Memari, who’s working on ways to build without even needing wood studs.

With the International Code Council officially recognizing hempcrete for insulation, its future is only looking greener.

🧩 Piece by Piece: A Smarter Way to Build

From the factory floor to 3D printers to sustainable materials like hemp, the housing industry is reimagining how homes are made.

There’s no single fix to the housing crisis, but together, these innovations are forming a toolkit for a more affordable, accessible, and environmentally responsible future.

At Galaxy Groves, we’re always tuned into the next big thing — and this wave of housing innovation is one we’re watching closely.

🌱 Big News for Hemp Farmers in Connecticut: A New Era Begins!

By Galaxy Groves • March 27, 2025

Great news is sprouting for Connecticut’s hemp community. A fresh wave of legislation is blooming — and it could reshape the future for local farmers who’ve struggled to stay afloat.

Earlier this week, the state’s General Law Committee approved a groundbreaking bill that would allow hemp farmers to cultivate cannabis — a move that could revive an industry hit hard by restrictive regulations. This is part of a broader effort to support smaller growers and breathe life back into a once-promising sector.

🌿 Why This Matters

Since the adult-use cannabis market opened in 2021, Connecticut’s hemp industry has withered. State Sen. Cathy Osten pointed out that the number of licensed hemp farmers has dropped from 42 to just 9. “We have to do something that allows, under the federal law, the hemp industry to exist,” Osten said during the committee meeting.

For many, this legislation is more than policy — it’s survival. One farmer even testified that their multi-generation family farm was lost due to the hemp market’s collapse.

Now, this new bill could change that by allowing:

  • Higher THC levels in state-grown hemp

  • Outdoor growing spots for micro-cultivators (under 25,000 sq. ft.)

  • Small-scale sales rooms, similar to brew pubs

  • More flexible packaging rules (yes to more colors!)

  • Internal investigations of minor in-house thefts without immediate state intervention

  • A task force to assess lab testing standards

🌱 Collaboration is Key

There’s also a major opportunity for partnerships between hemp farmers and micro-cultivators, according to Rep. David Rutigliano. These collaborations could boost small business ecosystems, strengthen local agriculture, and make the industry more accessible to a wider range of growers.

Rep. Roland Lemar, the committee co-chairman, sees the bill as a step toward respecting farmers’ rights and increasing business opportunities. While there's still a lot to iron out — including whether local approvals will be needed — the overall sentiment is one of cautious optimism.

🚜 What’s Next?

The bills are headed for further negotiation, redrafting, and (hopefully) floor debates in the House and Senate. If passed, this could open a new chapter for hemp in Connecticut — one where local growers thrive, innovate, and build community-centered cannabis businesses.

At Galaxy Groves, we believe in the power of regenerative agriculture, innovation, and hemp as a cornerstone of sustainability. This is more than a policy win — it’s a hopeful turn toward a more equitable, farmer-friendly future.

Stay tuned, because the green wave is just getting started 🌿

THCa: Origins, Effects, and Legal Landscape

By Galaxy Groves

📅 Published: March 17, 2025
📖 Medically Reviewed by Dr. David Miles on March 21, 2025

At Galaxy Groves, we’re dedicated to providing science-backed insights on hemp and cannabis. Today, we’re diving into THCa (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid)—a cannabinoid gaining attention for its potential therapeutic benefits and legal complexities.

Unlike THC, THCa is non-psychoactive in its raw form but transforms into THC when heated. This raises important questions: Is THCa just a precursor to THC, or does it offer unique advantages? How should consumers approach it? And what are the legal risks?

Let’s break it all down. 🚀🌱

What is THCa?

THCa is the acidic precursor to THC, naturally occurring in raw cannabis. It does not produce a high unless it undergoes decarboxylation, the process of heating that converts it into THC.

Where Does THCa Come From?

THCa is part of a group of cannabis compounds called Phyto cannabinoids, which were first discovered in 1896. Scientists later realized that cannabinoids exist in an acidic form until they are activated by heat.

Cannabis plants store THCa until decarboxylation occurs—whether through smoking, vaping, or cooking—at which point it becomes THC, the well-known psychoactive compound.

How is THCa Used?

Raw THCa Consumption

Many people consume THCa in its natural, unheated form to experience potential health benefits without intoxication. Popular methods include:

  • Juicing fresh cannabis leaves
  • Blending raw cannabis into smoothies
  • Consuming raw cannabis tinctures

THCa in Edibles

Some gummies, cookies, and snacks contain THCa. However, if heated during production, THCa may convert into THC, resulting in psychoactive effects.

Smoking & Vaping THCa

🔥 When THCa is heated, it becomes THC. This makes THCa flower, vape cartridges, and concentrates popular choices for those seeking the psychoactive effects of THC while staying within legal loopholes.

Effects of THCa

Immediate Effects (If Heated Into THC)

Once converted into THC, THCa can cause:
Euphoria & relaxation
Altered perception & cognitive impairment
Dry mouth & increased thirst
Increased heart rate
Anxiety or paranoia (especially with high doses)

Long-Term Effects

For teenage users or frequent consumers, long-term effects may include:

  • Increased risk of dependence
  • Cognitive impairment
  • Respiratory issues (if smoked)
  • Higher risk of anxiety, depression, or psychosis

Potential Benefits of THCa

While research is still developing, THCa has been linked to several promising benefits:

🌿 Anti-Inflammatory Effects – May help with arthritis & autoimmune conditions
🧠 Neuroprotective Properties – Potential use in Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s treatment
🤢 Nausea Relief – Could assist chemotherapy patients & those with chronic nausea
🛡️ Antioxidant Benefits – May protect cells from oxidative stress
Seizure Reduction – Being explored in epilepsy treatments

Unlike THC, THCa does not cause intoxication, making it an attractive option for those seeking medical relief without impairment.

Is THCa Addictive?

Because THCa itself does not interact with brain receptors responsible for addiction, it is considered non-addictive. However, once converted into THC, it can contribute to cannabis dependence—especially with frequent use.

For those consuming heated THCa (THC) for pain relief or relaxation, it’s important to monitor use and avoid overconsumption.

THCa’s Legal Status

Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp-derived THCa is federally legal as long as the product contains less than 0.3% THC. However, because THCa easily converts into THC, some states have begun restricting or banning high-THCa hemp products.

How States Handle THCa Differently

🔹 Michigan – Allows licensed processors to legally convert THCa into THC
🔹 Florida – Only regulates THC, leaving THCa unregulated
🔹 Texas – Permits THCa products under federal hemp laws

💡 Always check your local regulations before purchasing THCa products!

The Risks of Unregulated THCa

Without strict federal oversight, some THCa products may pose safety risks:
🚨 Impurity & Contamination – Some products contain harmful additives or mislabeled THC levels
🚨 Inconsistent Potency – THCa products may vary in strength, leading to unexpected THC exposure
🚨 Legal Uncertainty – Some states crack down on THCa, making it risky for consumers

How to Ensure Product Safety

Buy from trusted brands with third-party lab testing
Check Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for accurate cannabinoid content
Stay updated on local laws regarding THCa & THC

Need Help Managing Cannabis Use?

If you or someone you know is struggling with THCa (or THC) overuse, support is available:

📞 SAMHSA National Helpline24/7 confidential support for substance use issues (1-800-662-HELP)
🛑 Marijuana Anonymous – In-person & online meetings for cannabis dependency
📚 National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) – Research-backed cannabis recovery resources

Seeking professional guidance from a licensed therapist or addiction specialist can also help.

Final Thoughts: Should You Try THCa?

THCa is a unique cannabinoid that offers potential health benefits while avoiding intoxication—unless heated. However, its legal gray areas, potential for THC conversion, and risks of unregulated products mean consumers must approach it with caution.

Key Takeaways from Galaxy Groves:

🌱 Raw THCa = Non-Intoxicating | 🔥 Heated THCa = THC (Psychoactive Effects)
🧬 Potential Benefits – Anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, nausea relief
Legal Status – Federally legal but restricted in some states
Buyer Beware – Always verify lab testing & product purity

🌿 Texas Hemp Market Soars to $10B—But Will New Laws Crush the Momentum?

March 25, 2025 | Galaxy Groves Blog

Big news out of Texas: a newly released economic report reveals the state's hemp industry is booming, driving massive growth in jobs, wages, and revenue. But just as this green wave gains serious momentum, proposed regulations are threatening to undo it all.

📈 A $10.3 Billion Industry—And Still Growing

According to the updated Hemp-Derived Cannabinoids in the Lone Star State report by Whitney Economics, Texas’ hemp-derived cannabinoid market is no small side hustle—it’s a heavyweight economic engine:

  • 💰 $5.5 billion in total industry revenue

  • 💼 53,300 jobs supported statewide

  • 💵 $2.1 billion in industry wages

  • 🛒 $4.3 billion in retail sales

  • 💸 $268 million in sales tax revenue

This growth isn’t a flash in the pan—it’s a steady rise from $3.3B in retail sales in 2023 to $4.3B in 2025. Jobs in the sector have also climbed, up 3,200 since 2023.

🚫 Proposed Ban Could Wipe Out $7.5B & 40,000 Jobs

But here’s the kicker: Texas Senate Bill 3 (SB3) threatens to ban hemp-derived THC products. If passed, the economic fallout could be devastating—up to $7.5 billion in losses and 40,201 jobs wiped out, according to the report.

“This industry is providing real jobs, real wages, and real economic power to Texas,” said Cynthia Cabrera, President of the Texas Hemp Business Council and Chief Strategy Officer at Hometown Hero. “Regulations that eliminate access to these products could shatter thousands of small businesses overnight.”

👥 Who’s Powering This Market?

Texas’ hemp sector includes over 8,500 businesses, and a staggering 72% reported profitability in 2025. From independent retailers to manufacturers and wholesalers, the ecosystem is thriving—and built on strict compliance standards.

Breakdown by Sector:

Sector Revenue Jobs Wages
Retail $4.3 billion 41,359 $1.53 billion
Wholesale $309 million 4,043 $190 million
Manufacturing $956 million 7,981 $374 million

🛡️ Industry Backs Responsible Regulation

Far from opposing regulation, industry leaders support safeguards: raising the purchase age to 21+, child-resistant packaging, and distance requirements from schools.

“Texans—especially veterans—rely on these products for wellness, calm, and relief,” Cabrera added. “Let’s not throw away an industry that’s working just because we don’t fully understand it yet.”

📚 About the Study

Commissioned by the Texas Hemp Business Council and led by Whitney Economics, the study surveyed over 4,500 businesses across the state. It uses a 2.4x multiplier to calculate the broader economic ripple effect across Texas.
